Bidhannagar Police have arrested Rohit Kumar, a resident of Patna, Bihar, for his alleged involvement in a ₹16 lakh cyber fraud case. The case—BDN East PS Case No. 19/25, dated 21.02.2025, under Sections 318(4)/319(2) of BNS—was registered at Bidhannagar East Police Station following complaints that a fraudster impersonating a bank official had duped victims. Based on digital and technical surveillance, the police tracked down and arrested Kumar from Bihar with the assistance of the local police.
During the arrest, police recovered multiple new and used mobile phones, SIM cards, and mobile accessories from the accused. After being produced before a Bihar court, he was brought to West Bengal on transit remand for further investigation. Officials are examining his call records, financial transactions, and digital activities to trace the money flow and identify other possible suspects involved in the operation. Authorities suspect the accused may have used multiple fake identities to carry out fraudulent transactions.
Police will present Rohit Kumar before the Bidhannagar Court today, seeking custody for further interrogation. Investigators are working to determine the full extent of the scam, the total number of victims, and any potential links to larger organized fraud networks. Law enforcement has urged the public to stay alert against calls from unknown numbers claiming to be bank representatives and to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
